Alexander McQueen:Savage Beauty
The exhibition, organized by The Costume Institute, will celebrate the late Alexander McQueen's extraordinary contributions to fashion. From his postgraduate collection of 1992 to his final runway presentation which took place after his death in February 2010, Mr. McQueen challenged and expanded the understanding of fashion beyond utility to a conceptual expression of culture, politics, and identity. His iconic designs constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion. Approximately one hundred examples will be on view, including signature designs such as the bumster trouser, the kimono jacket, and the Origami frock coat, as well as pieces reflecting the exaggerated silhouettes of the 1860s, 1880s, 1890s, and 1950s that he crafted into contemporary silhouettes transmitting romantic narratives. Technical ingenuity imbued his designs with an innovative sensibility that kept him at fashion's vanguard. click here to find out more

Japanese Street Style
These Chanel Nails are simply epic!
I loved this look it reminded of of the movie "Heathers". They all have sort of an 80's preppy high school girl thing going on
I love that this girl did her hair gray!

Dior Cans John Galliano for Anti-Semtic Rants
Today John Galliano, head designer of French label Christian Dior has been dropped after a video surfaced Monday of the drunken Brit slurring after being asked by a women if he had blonde hair and blue eyes....his response?
"No, but I love Hitler, and people like you would be dead today. Your mothers, your forefathers, would be f*cking gassed and f*cking dead."
He then went on to tell two shocked women when they asked if he had a problem..
"With you? Yeah, your ugly"
There have been accusations by others that Galliano has made similar anti-Semitic remarks which in Paris where the incidents have taken place.
Making anti-Semitic remarks can bring up to six months in prison in France, and Galliano appeared in a Paris police station Monday to face the accusations against him.
Being an American I do believe in freedom of speach and feel that jailing Galliano is ridiculous, but what he said was beyond unacceptable. Usually I am forgiving when it comes to the stupidity of the drunk, but watching the video that surfaced, I was convinced he was not making an off color joke, he was being rude and his status in the fashion world has clearly gone to his head.
Natalie Portman who is the face of Miss Dior Perfume and also Jewish is not pleased.
"As an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way."
Galliano I feel has dug his own grave career wise which I feel is punishment enough. He is a very creative and talented designer, but you can have all the fame and notoriety in the fashion world, but its worthless and easily lost if your ego inflates which his clearly has.

Is that a gun in your hanbag...?
Ever see the movie "The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag"?
No? I don't doubt it. This was one of my Nana's favorite movies, and one of the only ones that was remotely kid friendly at her house. I was the first grandchild of many to come, but this film kept me entertained enough. Its roughly about a mousy librarian who is ignored by most people, including her husband. A murder takes place and she finds the murder weapon. She takes the blame for the murder and she begins (with the help of a hooker with a heart of gold) to have self confidence and gets attention from everyone.
The reason I brought up this movie was because I found these purses and immediately this movie came to mind.
I think they are pretty cool looking, taking something that is the epitome of feminine and mixing it with cold steel and violence. I feel like the artist captured somewhat of the theme

They also have somewhat have an early 007 look to them.
"The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag". Taking the societal standard quiet well behaved woman on the outside with a daring, intimidating and possibly violent nature on the inside. Say what you will about gun control, this is not what this blog is about. I always appreciate any fashion that goes beyond mere functionality and how trendy something is, but fashion that says something, that is truly artistic.

Galaxy Dress
design by: Setareh Mohtarez
This design from the Brightness Dawn Collection is out of this world in a literal sense. Not only is the galactic print beautiful I love the concept and the shape. I really found that this designer really made fashion into an art form which I always love.
Setareh Mohtarez is a NYC-based designer whose work combines shape, movement, texture, and color. She nurtured her creative vision while attending the fashion department at the Antwerp Royal Academy.
After delivering her award-winning "Brightness Dawn" collection in 2009, she started her eponymous label.
Setareh's vision embraces innovation and fantasy, while keeping a strong respect for classic elegance. She is drawn to the mysterious and her work tells a distinct story that is close to her heart.

The Anatomically Correct mystery gown
I found possibly one of the weirdest and perhaps one of the coolest looking gowns in existnace. It is an anatomic depiction of the human insides!
I have never seen anything like it. I have tried to attach a name or label to this dress and I have been unsuccessful in my search. As you can see it shows the circulatory, bone, muscle, and organ structure. Although I couldn't imagine just anyone rocking this frock but its not a far cry from Lady Gaga's meat dress she wore at last years VMAs
I wish I knew when this gown was created and if Gaga drew inspiration from this. I wouldn't put it past her to rock this gown at another event, out of any celebrity she and perhaps Bjork are the only two I could ever find this get up appropriate for.

Katy Perry Peoples choice awards
Apparently Katy Perry and I have similar tastes for Betsey Johnson. I had listed this dress as a favorite in a previous post.
She looks like a fairy princess!
