All Bestey Johnson Boutiques Closing

Betsey Johnson has filled for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection. 

Steve Madden's company paid the debt from 2010 taking Betsey Johnson's intellectual property as collateral and started the process of restructuring the company and pumping out more goods. Unfortunately this restructuring didn't take and as a result of the bankruptcy, all Betsey Johnson Boutiques are closing their doors. As of now all locations are selling everything on sale including the fixtures and equipment. 

Not all is lost, the fashion legend will still have her designs available at department stores and her lower priced line Betseyville available. The once Andy Warhol costume designer I trust will get out of bankruptcy, she has even said that she will remain the creative directer and will be having a fashion runway show in September! 


*I had the pleasure of meeting Betsey recently and she is one of the kindest and most unpretentiousness women I've ever met. I'm sending out positive vibes her way and know she will come out on the other side even more girly, fun, youthful and sweet as ever!

Topless NY Woman: New Trend?

For the past 2 weeks, there has been a woman in the East Village of New York who has been letting it all hang out. Moira Johnston has been going topless to raise awareness that in NY, that since 1992 its has been LEGAL for a woman to go topless wherever a man can.

She has stated that the reactions have been mixed although she does get a lot of support. "People aren't used to seeing it in our culture yet."

Bold is and understatement. I don't know if I could be brave enough to rock this look although in my younger days, if I had known it was legal, it might had been a different story.

Would you walk topless if you knew it was legal? Why or why not?

Aging Gracefully: 90 Year Old Model Isis Apfel face of MAC

At the beginning of 2012, MAC  put out a new line of makeup with 90 year old fashion icon Isis Apfel as the face of the January collection. Within days the line sold out. In a time where we say things like "40 is the new 30" ...maybe it is a time to realize not only is a time to grow up, but to do so with dignity.

Now in a time where society can see the lasting effects of cosmetic surgery especially with shows like The "Real" Housewives, it is clear that cosmetic surgery doesn't make you look younger, just more peculiar looking.

Marketers are beginning to see the value of widening the range of what is deemed beautiful age-wise

54 year old Ellen DeGeneres is a cover girl and 66 year old Diane Keaton is the face of L'oreal 

Also in January this year Meryl Streep was on the Cover of Vogue magazine, at 62 she is the oldest cover girl in the history of the magazine!

 I hope this trend of anti ageism in marketing and in culture is a lasting one.
